But we gotta give credit where credit is due to the true Man behind the Louis Vuitton brand, recently named by Forbes as the top Fashion Mogul in the world…Bernard Arnault. (Don’t get us wrong Yeezy…we know we will see you there in a few years.)
Born 5 March 1949 in Roubaix, France , with a $16.5 billion dollar fortune, Bernard Arnault is the 14th richest person in the world, the 3rd in the European Union and the richest person in France.
Listed in 2007, as one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in The World, Arnault owns a major stake in LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy ), Christian Dior SA and his personal holding company Groupe Arnault SAS . Arnault is the Chairman and CEO of all three companies. Arnault also controls the brands of Dom Perignon and Fendi.
Heir to a successful construction business founded by his father, in France, Arnault navigated his dad’s business from construction to real estate, in the late 70’s and developed condominiums in Florida in the early 80’s, before becoming CEO of luxury goods company Financière Agache.
Arnault would eventually buy and sell troubled textile company Boussac, keeping only the distinguished Christian Dior brand and Le Bon Marché department store.
During the 1987 stock market crash Arnault managed to acquire and consolidate his controlling stake in LVMH, capitalizing on internal rifts with in the companies leadership.
Since then he has turned LVMH into the largest luxury group in the world.(Shares now up 30% since early March.)
